In honor of the 10th Anniversary of September 11,
New Bern Civic Theatre hosts a very special
Commemorative Gala Opening Night for Guys and Dolls
September 9, 2011

Ten years ago, on September 11, 2001, terrorists murdered nearly 3,000 innocent people at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon, and in a quiet field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Over 400 first responders perished heroically that day performing their sworn duty: firefighters, NYPD, PAPD, and other rescue workers. Those who were lost during 9/11 were the everyday sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives, and mothers and fathers who make up the fabric of this nation.

On September 9, 2011 New Bern Civic Theatre sponsors a Commemorative Gala Opening Night for Guys and Dolls to remember the thousands of innocent men, women, and children murdered by terrorists in the horrific attacks. We recognize the endurance of those who survived, the courage of those who risked their lives to save others, and the compassion of all who supported us in our darkest hours. NBCT proudly honors those who continue to fight overseas and here on our homeland.

Guys and Dolls

Books by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. Music and Lyrics by Frank Loesser. Based on The Idyll of Sarah Brown and Characters by Damon Runyon.

Directed by: Don Elmore, Produced by: Karen Pierson

Set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, this oddball romantic comedy—considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy—soars with the spirit of Broadway as it introduces us to a cast of vivid characters who have become legends: Sarah Brown, the upright but uptight “mission doll,” out to reform the evildoers of Times Square; Sky Masterson, the slick, high-rolling gambler who woos her on a bet and ends up falling in love; Adelaide, the chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she’s been engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiancé, desperate as always to find a spot for his infamous floating crap game.
