New Bern, NC – The Ring City Rollergirls of East NC are gearing up for their next Roller Derby match! Today, I finally had the opportunity to learn more about this fun and unique women sports team!
Growing up watching Roller Derby, I was excited to see that a couple decades later, Roller Derby, is alive and well in Eastern NC! If you’re not familiar with this female entertainment sport, you can see firsthand by watching them practice!

Practice times and locations: Mondays: Rollerland in New Bern from 6:30-8:30pm; Tuesdays: Moose Lodge in Jacksonville from 7-9pm; Wednesdays: Fusion in Greenville from 7-9pm; and Thursdays: Galaxy Sports in Kinston from 7-9pm.
The RCR are recruiting: players and volunteers for refereeing and event staff. You don’t need experience to become a Ring City Rollergirl!
Support this family fun sport by becoming a sponsor! Sponsors can donate gift certificates, merchandise, water, skating or fundraising space, etc. Monetary donations are important as they are working hard to become a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and funding is an issue.
Cheer them on at their next bout: “Summertime Black & Blues” on September 10th (due to Hurricane Irene, the bout for August 27th has been rescheduled), where the Ring City Rollergirls of East NC host the Camel City Thrashers of The Triad from Greensboro at Rollerland, 3502 Neuse Blvd., New Bern. Doors open at 6pm and bout starts at 6:30pm. Admission: $5 for adults, children 12 and under get in free.
Special thanks to Jill “Shedevilish” and Sarah “LuckyScarrs” Thrasher for taking the time to share information about the Ring City Rollergirls of East NC with me. We had fun stopping in to see Lou Williams, Owner of Lou’s Towne Shoppe and Florist!
