President Fred George with Managers, Mo, Lee, and Justin

New Bern, NC – President, Fred George, and the Trade it Store’s Team welcomed visitors to their open house last Friday at their newest store located at 3460 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.

All items at The Trade it Store are purchased from their customers at the trade-in center for cash or store credit, cleaned, and placed on the sales floor.

Manager, Lee Shaver, told me they offer warranties and layaway options. You can trade things for store credit to be used with their 90 day layaway program. If you want to buy an item, you originally pay $35 and then you can turn in merchandise for credit to be used towards your layaway item. Lee also noted, the only things we don’t buy are “people, pets, plants, food, clothes, guns, medical supplies, and personal items”.

Walking around the store, I noticed: hand tools, lawn equipment, sporting goods (skates, snow boots, tennis rackets, lacrosse sticks, helmets, golf clubs, etc.), jewelry (necklaces, rings, watches, etc.), electronics (I-Pods, cameras, televisions, computers, printers, computer games, radios, speakers, VCRs, DVD players, GPSs, etc.), auto equipment (tires, rims, stereos, etc.), DVD movies, and much more!

Fred George said, “seventy – seventy five cents on every dollar spent stays in New Bern”. They don’t purchase merchandise from overseas, they buy it from our community. Most of the rest of the money is sent to their corporate office in Wilson, NC; which keeps the money in our State.

He also mentioned that they work closely with law enforcement to make sure the merchandise isn’t stolen. They ask for two forms of identification when purchasing goods from customers and provide a list of items to law enforcement.

Fred introduced his managers, Maurice “Mo”, Justin, and Lee as “Men of honor and hard workers”. It was apparent that this friendly and knowledgeable team is excited about their new store that’s only been open for two weeks.

The New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed the Trade it Store to New Bern with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and the Cow Café provides beverages and food for their grand opening.

Store hours: Monday thru Saturday: 10am – 8pm and Sunday: 12 – 6pm.
