Coastal Women’s Shelter provides Vital Resources in Our Community!

Coastal Women’s Shelter, established in 1986, is dedicated to assist family members, primarily women and children, who suffer when there is a breakdown in the family system resulting in domestic violence. We provide support, education and alternatives (including a safe house) to those whose lives have been disrupted by the devastating effects of domestic violence.

Coastal Women’s Shelter of North Carolina is the only agency of its kind for Craven, Pamlico, and Jones Counties. Our organization provides a comprehensive range of services to members of the community who are affected by domestic and family violence. Our mission is to help women and their children live lives free of domestic violence and acquire the skills necessary to be self-sufficient and good nurturers. Our services include a 24 hour Crisis Line, court advocacy, monthly support groups for women and children, transportation, employment resources, housing assistance, Displaced Homemakers Program, and interagency information and referrals. Increasing community awareness and education is another integral part of our program. Through client outreach, educational and training workshops, we increase local awareness of domestic and family violence, their causes, and impact on families and the community.

While most of our services extend to women and children in the local area who are affected by domestic and family violence, we also provide some services to men and to families and individuals from other counties, states, and of other nationalities.

Our Helping Hands Boutique, located at 2715 Highway East, is a thrift store offering gently used clothing and household items.  All proceeds go to support victims of domestic violence.
