New Bern Historical Society’s 22nd Annual Ghostwalk
October 25-27, 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM
The ghosts populating New Bern Historical Society’s Ghostwalk may be from New Bern’s misty past, but because of scriptwriters Alma Gibbons and Matt Arthur, the ghosts and their stories are brought back to life in lively, interesting and entertaining ways. Every year they have the job of ‘ghost writing’ scripts for the Ghostwalk characters that represent real people who once lived in or visited New Bern. According to Alma, she and Matt enjoy researching and writing the scripts. She says their goal is “to create skits that are fun, informative and as historically accurate as possible”.
Alma has volunteered for Ghostwalk for more than 15 years serving as ticket chair, homeowner, and three times as a ghost. She also served on the New Bern Historical Society Board of Directors. Alma has shared scriptwriting duties with Matt Arthur for the last two years. Both Alma and Matt have been seen in the Historical Society’s Haunted Evening productions. They spend their regular working hours at Tryon Palace, Alma as a character interpreter and Matt as Living History Programs Coordinator.
This year’s Ghostwalk, Spirited Through Time, begins Thursday, October 25, from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at Cedar Grove Cemetery, and the Athens and Masonic Theatres. Expect ghost sightings at the cemetery and spirited entertainment at both theatres. An additional sixteen (16) ghost sites as well as the cemetery and theatres are open Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27 from 5:30pm to 9:30pm.
Your Ghostwalk ticket is good for all three evenings. Tickets for adults are $15 in advance, $20 days of the event.
