Karen Savoca‘s appearance on the contemporary folk scene says more about the broad-minded audience of folk than it does about her music. Together with longtime partner Pete Heitzman, the duo’s live performances put some funk in the folk! Playing conga and hand percussion, Karen infuses the music with her love of Soul, R&B, and World rhythms. Karen and Pete have been described as a self-contained mini-band with “the fearlessness of a high-wire act working without a net.” It’s an elusive mix… melodic, funky and spontaneous.
Since their last performance here several years ago, dedicated fans have been hoping for their return.
Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 members, $8 students, and are available at the venues and at Bank of the Arts in New Bern. Visit www.downeastfolkarts.org or call 252-633-6444 for more information.
