Craven County Recreation & Parks Department is sponsoring an advanced volleyball clinic. The clinic is run by Coach Al Lee and helps girls become a better passer, server, setter, and hitter. These clinics are designed for girls age 8-11 & 12&up and held at HJ Macdonald Middle School. The next clinics are January 27th for ages 8-11 and February 3rd for ages 12& up from 2:00-4:00p.m. Cost is $30 for ages 8-11 & $20 for ages 12 & up for the clinic. The 2013 Neuse River Senior Games and Silver Arts will be held April 16-April 25 at various locations in Craven County. Senior Games are for individuals 55 and over featuring competition in many Olympic sports. Silver Arts registrants can participate in Heritage, Literary, Performing or Visual Arts. Registration packets may be picked up from the Craven County Recreation & Parks Department at 406 Craven Street. The registration deadline is March 15th. Craven County Recreation & Parks Department is sponsoring yoga classes in Vanceboro. Classes are from 5:00 pm-6:15 pm every Thursday, for ten weeks. Fee for the class is $70 per registrant. Craven County Recreation & Parks Department is sponsoring a co-ed softball league this spring. The deadline to enter a team is Tuesday, April 1st at 5:00pm. Team fee is $350, which is due at the time of registration. League play begins Friday, April 12th. All games will be played on Monday & Friday nights. Craven County Recreation & Parks Department is sponsoring a men’s softball league this spring. The deadline to enter a team is Tuesday, April 2nd at 5:00pm. Team fee is $400, which is due at the time of registration. League play begins Tuesday, April 16th. Team fee is $175, which is due at the time of registration. League play begins Wednesday, April 17th. All games will be played on Wednesday nights at Creekside Park. Craven County Recreation & Parks Department is sponsoring a kayaking class starting Thursday, April 25th from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm at Creekside Park. The class will run every Thursday for four weeks. Special Olympics Craven County has begun sports training for the 2013 season. We are always looking for volunteers, as well as coaches in the New Bern and Havelock areas. Sports currently being offered for the spring season are bowling, basketball, bocce, and aquatics. We also have our annual Spring Games coming up on Thursday, May 2nd. Craven County Recreation & Parks Department in conjunction with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Staff is sponsoring a Nature Walk on May 9th at the Latham Whitehurst Nature Park. This walk will discuss birds & other wildlife living at the Nature Park. Cost for the walk is $10 per person and preregistration is suggested.
