On July 20, Isaac Taylor Garden features the Andrea Owens Jazztet. The concert features the smooth sultry sounds of lead singer, Andrea Owens, guitarist, Phil Owens, Randy Mills on saxophone, George Knott on acoustic bass and drummer Ike Smith. This assembly of polished musicians will enlighten the hearts of Jazz lovers set in a lovely outdoor venue in historic downtown New Bern.
Bassist George Knott started the band, “Atomic Rhythm All-Stars”, which filled a void much neglected in the Jazz world. As a bassist, Knott toured with regional acts throughout North Carolina and played major music festivals including the JVC Jazz festival. Knott has appeared at Carnegie Hall and the Birdland Jazz Club in NYC.
Randy Mills in-depth passion for jazz is apparent as he describes one of his musical sessions on tenor saxophone in technical terms, “…randomizing the 2 major triads produced in the corresponding mixolydian mode. There are a couple of uses of the altered scale, a.k.a. super lochrian.” Mills says that he is always working on the blues.
Andrea Owens was featured Jazz Festivals in New York and North Carolina. Phil and Andrea Owens wrote an original musical “F.I.S.H” performed in New Bern. They produced an award-winning song “On More Pair of Shoes” on their CD entitled “Something Like That”. The CD is available for purchase at Greater Good Gallery in New Bern.
Ticket price of $20 includes three beverages of your choice, including wine, beer, bottled water and soda. MJ’s Raw Bar will be providing food for an additional fee. In the Isaac Taylor Garden, we encourage you to bring blankets to sit upon the grass or comfortable lawn chairs. Upon an old cobblestone yard and grass lawn, high-heels are not suggested.
