Craven County is hosting its 1st Veterans Stand Down on 10 June 2014

Veterans Stand Down

Attention: To all military veterans (young & old) and family members of veterans:

8am – 1pm

Where? Veterans Employment Base Camp & Organic Garden, Stanley White

Recreation Center/Henderson Park, New Bern

What is a veterans stand-down? The concept was taken from the Vietnam War in which the leadership allocated a safe place for units returning from combat. The Stand Down afforded battle-weary soldiers the opportunity to renew their spirit, health and overall sense of well-being.

Today, Stand Downs are intended to be collaborative, grassroots events coordinated between local VA’s, federal, state & local government agencies, and community/civic agencies which serve and interact with military veterans and their loved ones. It is a time when local government, veterans organizations and surrounding communities come together and give back to the Veterans and their family members who have served us!
