New Bern knows how to celebrate the Holiday Season!

Hundreds of people gathered in the streets of Downtown New Bern to kick-off this year’s “Light up the Season” in Bear Plaza! This fun-filled evening was planned by the “Beary Merry Christmas” Committee led by Amanda Banks and the team of numerous volunteers. It wouldn’t have happened without their hard work and local business sponsors! Joe Alcoke Chevrolet continues to support this special event along with A. G. Salem, WCTI News Channel 12, the Sun Journal, and many more! For a list of all the contributors, please visit the Beary Merry Christmas website.

Watch the video to see how our small town of New Bern, NC, comes together to kick-off the holiday season.

We enjoyed the Jonkonnu’s performance from Tryon Palace, meeting new people, and catching up with friends.

Radio personalities, Amy and Marc of V103.3FM, entertained the crowd starting at 3pm. Onlookers enjoyed and danced to the music of The Jonkonnu dancers from Tryon Palace.

Children gathered in the O’ Marks Building for face painting, letters to Santa, crafts and other activities

Anna Bulszewicz and Brian North from News Channel 12 joined in the festivities.

When Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived, the “Light Up the Season” countdown began.

When the light’s hit Bear Plaza and Santa’s House, the first snow began to fall. The children reached for the sky! This was a special moment for many as the first snowfall was dedicated in memory of New Bern’s beloved Meteorologist, Skip Waters.

We hope to see you around town as there’s all kinds of exciting things to do and awesome events!
