Free Admission to New Bern Academy Museum, Military Encampments held Nov. 15-16

Military encampments and free admission to the New Bern Academy Museum will highlight Tryon Palace’s “Civil War Weekend: New Bern’s Hospitals,” held 10 a.m.-5p.m. on Nov. 15, and12:30-5 p.m. on Nov. 16.

Interactive discussions, exhibits and an encampment of the Charlotte Artillery will be available throughout the weekend at the New Bern Academy Museum, located on the corner of New and Hancock streets. All activities at the New Bern Academy Museum, including admission to the museum’s newest exhibit, “Face to Face: Civil War Sketches and Stories,” will be available at no cost. Other exhibits at the New Bern Academy Museum are focused on New Bern’s occupation during the Civil War, New Bern Architecture and a history of the building itself.

Civil War-themed tours of the Dixon and Stanly House will also be offered throughout the weekend with the purchase of a One-Day Pass, available at the North Carolina History Center and the Waystation. Tours in the Stanly House will focus of Civil War nursing and the Dixon House will be inspired by Thanksgiving traditions.
