>Twin Rivers YMCA to Host 5th Annual Triathlon

>The Twin Rivers YMCA in New Bern, NC will be hosting its 5th Annual Triathlon on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 8:00 am. Once again this year we are excited to have CarolinaEast Health System as our title sponsor for our triathlon which is sure to be a great event for everyone.

The event is a sprint triathlon and is meant for beginners, but challenging enough for the well seasoned athlete. The distances of this event consist of a 400 yard pool swim, 10 mile bike ride and a 5K run. The bike course will travel through Trent Woods and the run will take you through the historic Ghent neighborhood.

Last year this event brought in over 200 athletes from the tri-county area and several different states. The age of the participants for last year’s triathlon ranged from 10 to 74 years old.

Come out to the YMCA to experience this great event, whether you are a participant, volunteer or spectator, there will be something for everyone. Food and beverages will be provided for all volunteers and participants. This event benefits the YMCA’s Scholarship Program.

To register for the triathlon go to www.setupevents.com, under TTS – events for 2012.

About New Bern Now
Editor-in-Chief, Wendy Card, founded New Bern Now in April 2009. There were a number of reasons she developed the website. While stationed in Washington DC, she had 30 days to transfer to Naval Hospital Cherry Point and didn’t know much about the area. She was frustrated because there wasn’t a central location on the Internet for information about New Bern. Wendy retired from the Navy in Oct 2007. When our economy dived, she was trying to find her way in life and decided to give back to the community by creating a website that provided a “One Stop, Information Shop” to help people find out what’s happening in our community along with creating a free business listing to help business owners who couldn’t afford to advertise.
