Diali Cissokho & Kairaba to Perform in Eastern NC

Above video was filmed by Diali Cissokho & Kairaba! on location in Senegal
and edited by Adam Pyburn.

Chapel Hill, NC/ M’bour, Senegal — based band, Diali Cissokho & Kairaba, will be playing the North Carolina coast July 13 and 14. Kairaba is led by Senegalese griot musician Diali Cissokho who brings the ancient flavor of the griot tradition (his own lineage dating back to the 14th century) to mix with the very current sound of Kairaba.   Tradition meets modernity in this band; African music embraces its American offspring, Jazz and Blues, and the result is a fresh and exhilarating musical experience full of unison melody, adventurous improvisation, fiery solos and polyrhythmic frameworks. With lyrics in Manding, Wolof, and English, Diali Cissokho & Kairaba illuminates its listeners with stories of ancient and modern West Africa and how they relate to today’s universal experiences and emotions. After the band’s recent tour in Senegal and the lauded release of its debut record, Resonance, Diali Cissokho & Kairaba are a band on the rise.

About New Bern Now
Editor-in-Chief, Wendy Card, founded New Bern Now in April 2009. There were a number of reasons she developed the website. While stationed in Washington DC, she had 30 days to transfer to Naval Hospital Cherry Point and didn’t know much about the area. She was frustrated because there wasn’t a central location on the Internet for information about New Bern. Wendy retired from the Navy in Oct 2007. When our economy dived, she was trying to find her way in life and decided to give back to the community by creating a website that provided a “One Stop, Information Shop” to help people find out what’s happening in our community along with creating a free business listing to help business owners who couldn’t afford to advertise.
