North Carolina’s Sales Tax Holiday weekend is August 3-5, 2012. This is 72 hours of tax-free shopping on selected merchandise. During this three-day weekend – all day Friday, Saturday & Sunday – consumers can shop tax-free for many personal items.
Here are the basics: Computers and tablet computers priced at less than $3,500 are tax-free. Computer parts, such as monitors, keyboards, mouse, speakers, and cables will not be taxed when sold in conjunction with a central processing unit, but these components will be taxed if sold separately. Many computer supplies up to $250 per item also are tax-free.
School instructional materials up to $300 per item are tax-free. School supplies up to $100 per item are tax-free. Sports & recreational equipment up to $50 per item are tax-free. Clothing items up to $100 per item are tax-free.
