About Us

Wendy CardEditor-in-Chief, Wendy Card, founded New Bern Now in April 2009. There were a number of reasons she developed the website. While stationed in Washington DC, she had 30 days to transfer to Naval Hospital Cherry Point and didn’t know much about the area. She was frustrated because there wasn’t a central location on the Internet for information about New Bern. Wendy retired from the Navy in Oct 2007. When our economy dived, she was trying to find her way in life and decided to give back to the community by creating a website that provided a “One Stop, Information Shop” to help people find out what’s happening in our community along with creating a free business listing to help business owners who couldn’t afford to advertise.

  1. I work with several sparkling authors from the New Bern area, and will be joining Ken Capps at his Book Signing on July 13 Port City Java (I’m his editor and maniacal supporter of his new book, ha!) In gearing up for that signing and some other promotional setups (i.e., Alva Harris and Buzzard’s Myth, for one), I found this fabulous site. You guys really “cover it,” and I just want you to know you’re appreciated by your community and even those of us just outside of it (Alpharetta, GA).

    Many thanks,
Jan Green, professional wordshaper and champion for authors

  2. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us and for the wonderful remarks, Jan! It was a pleasure meeting Ken and we look forward to his book signing. Hope to see you there! We also did a video with Alva Harris promoting Born on a Buzzard’s Stump. It was a joy getting to know him during last year’s Craven Arts Festival.

  4. Lou, you have no idea how much your words mean to me. You were such an inspiration to me and so many people when we were at Cherry Point and still are. Thank you. Sincerely, Wendy Card

I stumbled across this website through a link at Downtown New Bern’s Facebook page and just have to say that I Love It!! There is so much information about everything New Bern, and the calendar is going to be a weekly read. I enjoy it so much, this is my new home page! I will be hawking this to everyone I know, friends and visitors alike :)

  6. Thank you for your kind words, Nancy! We’re lucky to have people send us the latest happenings. Downtown New Bern’s Facebook page is also a terrific asset for local information. Thanks for visiting New Bern Now:)! – Wendy Card

  7. I have enjoyed browsing your web site. As a comment, there are a lot of sports teams in New Bern. Do you plan on covering the local “kids” sporting events? If so, I think my son Dave may be a good choice to have on your staff. He is very involved in the local sports scene.

  8. Thanks for the compliment and for visiting New Bern Now, Jerry! I would be happy to promote our local sports teams and welcome any articles and photos. As far as hiring someone. I don’t have any staff. I have 5 people who volunteer their time to help promote our community. Although I have personally covered last year’s Babe Ruth Championship games, I don’t have the time to commit to all the latest sports. As you’ll notice, I receive at least half of the content from people who live here and they are credited for the article and photos. Please let your son know, that I would be happy to publish the information. I hope to make enough money through advertising at some point to hire someone to help with the workload. Thank you! – Wendy Card

  9. Van Cuthbertson says:

Wendy it’s obvious you have assembled a winning team! I look forward to enjoying your publications and hopefully giving “New Bern Now” positive things to publish.

  10. Thanks, Van! We really appreciate your support! – Wendy
