New Bern is a city rich in the Arts, History, and Outdoor Recreation. It is a safe, suburban community with a population close to 30,000 residents with diverse social backgrounds.

Residents range from home grown New Bernians, transplants seeking a slower pace of life, and snowbirds escaping from the cold weather. Military members and their families homestead in New Bern because of its close proximity to Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point and Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejuene.

Abounding in history, the Swiss Baron Christopher de Graffenried founded New Bern in 1710 and the city was named after his home city of Bern, Switzerland. Nestled between the Neuse and Trent Rivers in Eastern NC, New Bern is a haven for outdoor fanatics. Golfing, Fishing, Boating, and Watersports are only a few of many things to do. Hunters relish in the enormous Croatan National Forest located in our backyard which also provides a sanctuary for nature lovers. It's home to the black bear, coyote, wild turkey, bobcat, wild boar, alligator, and bald eagle to name some of the wildlife species you may see. The Croatan's habitat supplies excellent conditions for exotic plants like the Venus flytrap, making it the only National Forest with the largest carnivorous plant population.


New Bern has a large manufacturing industry, home to Bosch Home Appliances, Drahtzug Stein, Moen, Maola Milk, Hatteras Yachts, Weyerhauser, and Wheatstone factories. These corporations supply thousands of employment opportunities for local residents.
