>New Bern Woman’s Club “Ring in the Holiday Season”!

>

It was a beautiful day to enjoy the 13th Annual “Holly and Ivy” Holiday Home Tour sponsored by the New Bern Woman’s Club!

Droves of people showed up to admire the six homes on display in the Historic Downtown New Bern District. They enjoyed cookies and beverages at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church on Johnson Street to learn about the history of New Bern and catch up with old friends.

The tour directed patrons to The Hand House (the old location of Gull Harbor Point); The Samuel W. Smallwood House; the Coor-Bishop Dependency; the Harker-Sparrow House; the Old Library; the Mary Louise Turner House; and new on the tour this year – the New Bern Fireman’s Museum!

The last I heard, over 600 people bought tickets for the tour, breaking last year’s record!

The Holly and Ivy tour is a terrific way for people to enjoy a day learning about local history, meeting new people and seeing old friends, and most of all, bringing joy to those in need by supporting several community projects and activities!

Special thanks to Kathy Fannin for giving me the Grand Tour and the New Bern Woman’s Club for all you do for our community for the past 106 years! This unique and hardworking service club was established in 1905. If you want to truly make a difference in our community, I highly recommend considering joining the New Bern Woman’s Club. They talk about what needs to be done and do it!

Also, thank you to all the homeowners and visitors who made this event a grand success!
