Carolina Publishing names Palace to Top-20 List for most visited Historic Sites

Tryon Palace finished 2014 with a 25-percent increase in total visitation over the previous year, and moved into the top 20 list of North Carolina’s most visited historic attractions. The 11th annual list was announced March 2 by Carolina Publishing and Associates of Matthews, and noted an improvement of four spots for Tryon Palace over the previous year.

Tryon Palace finished the 2014 calendar year with a total visitation of 226,571 people.

“I think these numbers speak volumes about the direction we’re going at Tryon Palace,” said Tryon Palace Assistant Director LeRae Umfleet. “Our staff is continually searching for new programs, exhibits, educational programs and musical performances that will help introduce Tryon Palace to new audiences from around the state.”

Among the 30 most visited attractions, 11 are located along the coast, seven in the Triangle, four in the Triad area and three in the Charlotte region.

Tryon Palace has also been named one of the top 22 Attractions in the South for Sizzling Social Events by the editors of ConventionSouth magazine.

ConventionSouth, a national multimedia resource for event planners, selected 22 attractions located across 16 Southern states and the Caribbean seas regions where groups can hold social events.

The process to place attractions on the list was based on editors’ review of hundreds of attractions from across the region. Each was reviewed for visual appeal, ability to provide groups with a unique experience and on-site meeting services.
