Read all about it, September is Literacy Month!

Craven Literacy CouncilFor more than 30 years, Craven Literacy Council has been a major force in improving the quality of life for adult literacy learners in Craven, Pamlico and Jones counties.  Our services are free and include tutoring for basic literacy skills such as reading and writing, listening and speaking or English as a second language; we also provide computer and technology instruction.  In addition, we offer instruction to help individuals prepare for the U.S. Citizenship interview and exam.

How can you help?  Talk to anyone who will listen about the importance of literacy and let them know there are many in our community that are lacking in these skills.  Last year we served over 200 adult learners with the help of over 100 volunteers.  If you have the time, we’d love to have you become a tutor or an administrative volunteer.  We also have committees that might be a good fit for your area of expertise.  Donations are always appreciated. Please contact Sandra McKinney at 252-637-8079 for more information.
