Craven Community College’s Lifetime Learning Center welcomes The North Carolina Baroque Orchestra, conducted by Frances Blaker, for an open community concert on Friday, August 3 at 7:30 p.m.

The North Carolina Baroque Orchestra (NCBO) is thrilled to perform again this summer in Eastern North Carolina! NCBO will present a program called “Fiori del barocco: Flowers of the Baroque” as a finale to the ensemble’s second annual orchestral retreat.  Composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Evaristo Felice Dall’Abaco, Antonio Vivaldi, and more will be featured in a concert of gorgeous baroque gems, played on period instruments.

NCBO is excited to be able to meet again at Camp Caroline in Arapahoe, NC (as it did in the summer of 2017) for an in-house workshop to grow the orchestra’s musical bonds and artistry.  Retreats like this offer a unique opportunity for NCBO musicians to recharge and become creatively inspired while far away from the pressures of daily life. Having a concert to highlight the orchestra’s endeavors during its retreat week is a way to not only celebrate the orchestra’s accomplishments, but to share this passionate music with the Eastern North Carolina community.

About the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra:

The North Carolina Baroque Orchestra (NCBO) was formed by sisters and musical collaborators, Frances Blaker (Artistic Director, top picture, left) and Barbara Blaker Krumdieck (Executive Director, top picture, right), for the purpose of providing opportunities for musicians and vocalists interested in exploring baroque performance practice in a baroque chamber orchestra setting. The orchestra allows musicians in North Carolina and the surrounding area an opportunity to work with highly experienced experts in the field.

Conductor Frances Blaker is a world-renowned expert in baroque performance practice, in addition to being a virtuoso instrumentalist. She exudes a high level of interpersonal skills, leading rehearsals and sectionals with expertise. Performers in the NCBO participate in sectional rehearsals led by experts in the stylistic details of the repertoire. The concert master/concert mistress may be brought in from outside the North Carolina region to help lead the orchestra in its goal of musical and stylistic self-improvement.

This concert is open to the community. Come as you are and pay what you can. The suggested donation is $10.
