Art meets History meets Business in Downtown New Bern

Tryon Palace Gingerbread HouseWe want to give a huge thank you to Mickey Miller, Kathy Morrison, and the New Bern Historical Society, participating businesses, and all the people who spent countless hours creating the gingerbread houses in window displays in Downtown New Bern!

It’s also a great way to draw consumers into businesses to see the displays up close.

I tagged along as the Judges viewed and scored all the beautiful and intricate gingerbread houses.

It was a nice surprise to see the number of children and adults who participated.

I’m looking forward to finding out who the winners will be as they will be announced New Bern’s Tree Lighting and Santa’s Arrival on November 23 at 6 p.m. on Middle Street. Winners will receive cash prizes up to $250 and a hand-crafted pottery ornament made by the Potters of the New Bern Art & Wellness Center.

Seeing the houses was a refreshing reminder of building them as a child, although mine couldn’t compare to these beautiful works of art! I thought about the people who made them, as they must feel so proud to know that their hard work paid off as they will be admired by hundreds if not thousands of people during the Holiday Season!

This is another wonderful project that is co-sponsored by Beary Merry Christmas for people to enjoy and perhaps lift the spirits of those recovering from the hurricane.  To see all of the special Beary Merry Christmas events, visit their website.

Once again, it’s another terrific example of “Unity in our Community” as locals, businesses, and nonprofits continue to inspire me every day! Thanks for all that you do!
