The Faces of Alzheimer’s Research

When Carol Colton, PhD, started studying the brain, conventional wisdom held that the immune system was locked out of this organ. Colton not only had the wisdom to see beyond this belief, but also imagined–and later found–that the body’s own defense system could be a culprit in the development of Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Colton is leader of a research team in the Neurology Department of Duke University Medical Center that is lauded for its cutting edge technology and its approach to solving the medical puzzle that is AD.
