Craven Arts Council Awards eight organizations grants to promote art in our communities

Bank of the Arts, 317 Middle St

Craven Arts Council & Gallery is proud to announce the distribution of eight Grassroots Art subgrants for the 2019-2020 cycle. Since 1977, the North Carolina Arts Council Grassroots Arts Program has provided North Carolina citizens access to quality arts experiences. Using a per capita formula, the program provides funding for the arts in all 100 counties of the state through local partnerships with local arts council such as Craven Arts Council and Gallery.

This year’s allotment for Craven County Grassroots Arts subgrants was $13,841, including $9,025 for multicultural programs. Twelve not for profit organizations submitted applications with program outlines in September, which were reviewed by a panel of local arts leaders from a variety of disciplines. Eight organizations were awarded funding for their programs which included the Young Adult Music and Art Festival by Adelphia, the Juneteenth Celebration by the African American Heritage and Cultural Center, Bach and Forward by Atlantic Dance Theatre, music outreach by the Carolina Chamber Music Festival, Five Points mural by Colorfest, concerts by the Craven Community Chorus, Ugly Duckling by Craven Concerts, and DownEast Folk Arts Society’s World music series.
