Habitat ReStore to hold “Shabby to Chic” and Auction Fundraiser

Habitat for Humanity of Craven CountyNew Bern, NC – The ReStore at Habitat for Humanity of Craven County is hosting a special event on Friday, November 15th, to raise funds for the purchase of a new truck to be used for donation pick-ups.

Local artists and Do-It-Yourself crafters have volunteered to transform regular items from the ReStore into something very creative and unique for the “Shabby to Chic” event from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the ReStore, 930 Pollock Street, New Bern. An Auction will also be part of the evening’s program to offer special higher value items that have been donated to the ReStore, including collectables, original art, antiques, and other exceptional pieces. All proceeds from this special fundraising event will be used to help purchase a new ReStore truck. Beverages and light refreshments will be served. The entire ReStore inventory will also be available for purchase in addition to the “Chic” newly refurbished items.

“We desperately need a new truck to go out several days each week to pick up donations,” said Evelyn Richards, ReStore Manager. “Our current truck has several thousand miles on it and while it has definitely served us well, we are starting to have some serious repair issues that make it time to consider a replacement.”

The ReStore accepts donations of furniture, appliances, household items, lamps, small kitchen appliances, dishes and glassware, mattresses, exercise equipment, tools and hardware, doors and windows, and much more! These items are then prepared for the sales floor and sold to the public at significantly reduced prices. Proceeds from the ReStore are critically important to the Habitat for Humanity affiliate as the primary revenue source to offset operating expenses. This allows any financial contributions or grant funds to Habitat for Humanity to be focused on home building. A secondary benefit of the ReStore operation is environmental since tons of items can be repurposed and reused, keeping them out of the landfill each year.

Founded in 1989, Habitat for Humanity of Craven County has built 67 homes to date, impacting over 110 adults and 125 children. Of these homes, mortgages have now been fully paid on 20 and a special Mortgage Burning Party is planned on November 13 for the most recent 4 mortgages completed.
